How do I create my birth announcement?
The birth announcement may seem like a simple formality, but it’s better to get started a little in advance! Begin by gathering the address list of your relatives/friends/colleagues and then start creating your announcement. You’ll quickly realize it… there are so many choices and so many different prices that it’s easy to get lost!
Several options are available to you: use a printer near you or make your announcements online.
More and more parents create their announcements online: super-fast service, hundreds of different designs, home delivery, very attractive rates, … In short, very convenient!
Prepare as much as possible in advance
The first weeks with a baby are quite demanding. If possible, buy the envelopes and stamps in advance, then pre-fill the addresses of your loved ones. All you’ll have left to do is finish filling things in once your baby arrives.
What should I put on my announcement?
- Your baby’s full name
- Date of birth
- Your address
- A link to your baby registry. To mention the link of your baby registry makes life easier for your loved ones (and for yourself too!)
What’s optional
- A classic (or not) wording to announce the happy event. Example: Victoria and John are overjoyed to announce the birth of xxx, or “Lily joins his parents in announcing the birth of her little sister xxxx.” There are dozens of funny, nice wordings that you can easily find online if you’re lacking inspiration.
- Place of birth
- Baby’s length and weight
- Time of birth
- Names of the godparents
Who should I send my announcement to?
There’s not really a rule. In general, the announcement is sent to family, friends, certain friends of the parents and grandparents, some colleagues, and the company where you work. You can also add to the list: the maternity ward, the daycare where you registered your little one, ... On average, parents send 50 to 60 announcements. A good tip: always order a few extra; reprints for very small quantities can be expensive.
What budget should you plan for?
For 50 announcements, the price range can be around 2 to 4 euros per announcement on average (this includes printing, cards, envelopes, and delivery if you order online). Some sites or printers offer sliding-scale prices depending on the number of cards. On top of that, you’ll need to add stamps.
